With the recent flack that Madonna received about her Met Gala outfit, I’m not sure the concept of “dressing your age” is something I can really get behind. Dress for the occasion, of course. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have, no brainer. But telling women of any age they are too young or too old to wear something they love seems like we’re going back in time. Here are six style tips anybody of any age should follow.
1. Get a good tailor.
Clothes look best when they fit best. You’d be amazed how a well-fitting outfit can change your life. Always find time to get those jeans hemmed.
2. Invest in the basics.
Check out our suggestions on essential pieces to building a wardrobe. Never underestimate the power of the perfect white tee.
3. Splurge on shoes.
Just do it, you know you want to. You’ll feel like a thousand bucks and confidence is priceless. You work hard, buy the shoes.
4. Sunglasses you never want to take off.
Whatever the outfit, show your style with a pair of sunglasses all your own. They can add an unexpected edge and protect your eyes and sensitive skin from the sun. Also, not a style tip, but wear sunscreen, you will not regret it.
5. Treat your favorite pair of jeans with respect.
You know which ones I’m talking about and never let them go. They may be hand-me-downs, the jeans you weren’t sure you should get or your biggest designer purchase, but either way, you love those jeans.
6. Follow your gut.
The only person who should care about what you’re wearing is you. If you love it, wear it.
