Redesigning a master bedroom can transform it from boring and unappealing into something aesthetically pleasing with a sense of luxury.
Once the master bedroom was not considered a priority to redesign compared to other rooms in the family home – it was just a place to switch off and sleep in – but people have increasingly become to realize the importance of this room in terms of the style of your home.
Here’s how to tackle the all-important task of designing a master bedroom…
Look At Space
Look at where you can add more space to the bedroom. Quite often bedrooms have elements that are consuming valuable design space such as chubby wardrobes for example. Just by removing these you can create more space for more attractive design elements. It’s possible to create your own built-in wardrobes by squaring off awkward corners of rooms, for example.
Your current bedroom might have a lot of clutter and, if so, it’s time to be ruthless and have a clear out. Clutter and chaos do not make for a relaxing place to sleep.
In guest rooms, consider using your space flexibly and efficiently to take the pressure off the master room. For example, a zip & link bed from Divan Beds Centre would allow you to have two single or one double bed depending on the people you are hosting. Consider too how you could use the space effectively during times when there are no guests. Spare rooms are great storage rooms that can take many of the items that you’d otherwise cram into your main sleeping area.
Bed & Its Colors
Get a new bed that fits in with the new design you are aiming for. It’s also important to think about the colors of the sheets, blanket and pillow cases as well. These colors need to be synchronized with other design elements of the room. Consider the color of the base of the bed and how you’d like to incorporate this into the rest of the bedroom. The bed and its furnishings should set the tone as the main focal point of the room.
Walls
The color of the walls makes a huge overall difference to the design of the bedroom. You can either paint the walls to match your style or use wallpaper that matches the patterns, design or feel of your furnishings. Adding a painting with colored frames or even photos with colored frames can make a massive difference to the mood of the room.
The Accessories
Look at the lamps, desks, television (if necessary), and even paintings. These all add to the overall vibe and appearance that is created by the bedroom. You don’t want to overdo it with accessories because they can reintroduce that clutter that you want to avoid but these are an effective way of building a look. Remember too that bedding and curtains, for example, can be easily switched around for variety during different seasons.
Your master bedroom can become your pride and joy and, through better design, can become a room that is relaxing and aids your sleep after a long, tiring day. Think about your use of space, how other rooms can help you to be flexible, your bed, furnishings, accessories and walls and use your imagination to deliver a great design that suits your personal tastes.

Very interesting article. Our master bedroom is a disaster and certainly not relaxing at all. We live in an all house, and there is really no much “wall space”. It’s a little bit frustrating to create a design that fits the dimensions of our bedroom. But, I love your ideas - I should try to see if I can use at least some of them in our master bedroom. thanks for sharing your ideas.
