Once in a while, we could all do with a little inspiration. In my opinion, it is essential for us to be able to stay on top of our game both in the workplace and on the social field. Inspiration can present itself in a plethora of different ways, very dependent on the individual.
Energy is running low on a Thursday afternoon, a project you haven’t started yet is due Friday morning and there is absolutely no drive left in your body. What do you do and what do you need?
Inspiration in all its forms.
Words.
Words can inspire most of us whether it be in the form of a compliment, criticism or indirect quote. A criticism can lead one person to destruction and another to success depending on what drives us. It is important to draw inspiration from words, no matter what form they come in. I can choose to see constructive feedback in disapproval and not let it affect me negatively.
Experiences.
There is so much that can be learned from the past and things that we have already been through. Yes, it can teach us not to lick ice since our tongue will get stuck, but it can also be a source of much-needed drive. Think of something that makes you happy, something you live for and all the things that make the world beautiful in your opinion. I think of walks through the impossibly green Irish countryside and of all the opportunities I have been given in my life so far.
Goals.
What is it you want to achieve? Where do you want to be ten years? Think about how you will feel when you achieve a goal, small or big. This will remind you that there is so much that you yet want to experience and so much worth fighting for. Idols also fall under this category. Think about people you look up to and realise that much of what you admire in them, you can implement in yourself.
A Place.
There may be a place where you just soak up motivation. It could be going home to your family or an art museum or a walk along the beach. It is somewhere you feel comfortable but still inspired to be something or do something more.
A Person.
I am sure you all know at least one person who is so incredibly inspiring. It can be a driven person who constantly is striving to improve him- or herself. It can also be someone who is so magnificently comfortable being themselves that you feel that you can be your true self with them too. Sit down and have a coffee with them and let their motivation infest you.
Some days are tougher than others. Trust me, I know how hard it can be to stay motivated through all the ups and downs. Know that you don’t need to have an explanation for feeling down one day, there doesn’t even need to be a reason. It is tough out there in the real world, all working women know that. Remember that inspiration can be found in the most adverse of places if you choose to open your eyes to see it.
